ALBION’s under-23s were defeated 2-0 by Sheffield United in the Premier League Cup.
Despite a bright start that saw Callum Morton have a shot blocked, the young Baggies found themselves a goal behind on 11 minutes when Tyler Smith smashed in from close range.
And it was Smith who doubled United’s lead four minutes before half time when he finished off a slick counter-attacking move for the home side.
James Shan’s side tried to find a way back into the side in the second half and went closest to scoring when Morton had an effort somehow cleared off the line after a scramble in the penalty area.
Morton then flashed a shot across goal late on and Evan Pierce saw a header blocked but it was United who held on to claim the three points.
