Albion Women 1-3 Liverpool Feds

Albion Women in a team huddle.

Albion Women were beaten at home by Liverpool Feds in their FA WNL Northern Premier encounter on Sunday afternoon.

Ellie May’s second half penalty wasn’t enough for the Baggies, who went in at the break three goals down after a slow start.

Albion are next in action on Sunday, February 2, when they welcome Hull City.

Siobhan Hodgetts-Still made one change to the side that beat Halifax last weekend, with Seren Watkins back in the XI in place of Simran Jhamat.

The Baggies went behind after six minutes as Holly Deering finished off a string of Feds’ corners with a smart drilled strike. The visitors doubled their advantage just over 10 minutes later when Katie Anderson found the roof of the net with a powerful effort.

Albion found their rhythm, but couldn’t capitalise as Maz Mahmood turned Phoebe Warner’s cross over from the edge of the six-yard box.

A positive period for the Baggies was brought to an abrupt halt on the stroke of half time. Courtney Willis rose highest in the penalty area to head home from a set-piece to make it 3-0.

Albion looked to have a renewed vigour after the break, as Hodgetts-Still introduced Ella Haughey and May to proceedings.

The latter had an instant impact on the game, latching onto a long ball before seeing her run unfairly thwarted by the onrushing Rachael Norney. May then stepped up to cooly send the Feds goalkeeper the wrong way from the spot with a smart side-footed finish.

Albion had their late opportunities to reduce the deficit, but it was the visitors who left with all three points.
