Albion Women 4-0 Halifax

Albion Women celebrate their first goal against Halifax.

Albion Women opened their home league campaign with a comfortable FAWNL Northern Premier Division victory over Halifax at the Valley Stadium.

A second-half brace from Ashlee Brown, followed by an own goal and a Mariam Mahmood strike saw Siobhan Hodgetts-Still’s side to three crucial points.

The Baggies are now unbeaten in their first two league games, and face Solihull Moors in the determining round of the FAWNL Cup on Wednesday evening.

Mariam Mahmood and Olivia Rabjohn celebrate.

Albion made two changes to the side that battled for a point away at Liverpool Feds the previous week. Fran Orthodoxou made way for Rubie Harris to make her first start and Warner came in for Ali Miller in the forward line.

Albion looked to come out of the box quickly in their home bow and crafted an exciting attacking move straight from kick-off. Warner was set away into space on the wing before lofting in a cross towards the head of Olivia Rabjohn, whose effort went straight into the arms of Halifax goalkeeper Jamie-Lee Bamford.

Warner once again was on hand to cause issues for the visitors, this time finding Rabjohn with a cutback, who met the cross but unfortunately for Albion turned the ball just past the post, leaving proceedings goalless come the interval.

The Baggies did made a fast start to the second half, though. Warner drove through the heart of the visitors' defence, seeing the post halt her low effort and the onrushing Brown the simple task of bundling over the line to give Albion the advantage.

And it would be the same combination to double their advantage. Warner beat her defender, flashed it across to the back post, and Brown lurked to tap home her second.

The Baggies added another two within the last five minutes of the game, too. Firstly Rabjohn's dangerous corner evaded almost everyone in the box and deflected into the far side of the net.

Then substitute Mariam Mahmood made the most of her first few touches after coming on, slaloming into the penalty area and converting comfortably.

Albion are next in action on Wednesday, August 28, as they close out the month with a trip to Solihull Moors in the FAWNL Northern Premier Division.

Albion: Miller, Brown, Reynolds, Green, George, Evans, Harris, Rabjohn, Jhamat (Mahmood 83’), Warner, Rhodes-Andrews (May 75’).

Substitutes: Orthodoxou, Whittick.
