Albion Women were condemned to a narrow defeat by FA WNL Northern Premier Division high-flyers Burnley at Turf Moor on Sunday.
The Baggies, who defended resolutely throughout, carved out chances of their own but were downed by Reanna Blades' second-half goal.
Siobhan Hodgetts-Still's team are next in action on Wednesday, September 26 (ko 7.45pm), when they host Stourbridge in another Valley Stadium league outing.
The head coach made two changes to her side in Lancashire, as Ellie May got for her first Albion start, while a midfield switch saw Seren Wakins replace Ali Miller.
Though Burnley dominated the opening stages of the match, the visitors still threatened down the other end. Izzy Green came just inches away from giving Albion the lead - her looping effort bouncing agonisingly off the crossbar.
And the Baggies soon manufactured another opportunity via May, who won the ball high inside the Clarets’ half, yet her square ball was intercepted by Naomi Hartley before it reached substitute Miller.
However, despite that good work, Albion went behind early on in the second period. Anna Gray passed across the six-yard box to Blades for a simple finish, giving Burnley the advantage.
Although behind, the visitors continued to try and find a goal. Miller marched down the left channel and sent a cross back towards Simran Jhamat, and she was blocked from turning her effort goalwards.
Sadly, the visitors could not find a late equaliser - leaving them without a point to show for their efforts.
Albion: Miller; Brown, Reynolds, Green, George (Haughey 64’); Evans Watkins (Jhamat 64’); May (Mahmood 73’), Warner; Rhodes-Andrews (Miller 10’ (Oakley 76’)).
Substitutes: Turner, Orthodoxou.
