Jed Wallace 'delighted' to see Tom Fellows score for England

Jed Wallace insists he and the rest of the Albion squad were absolutely “thrilled” to see Tom Fellows score his first goal for England’s U21 side on Monday night.

The academy graduate recorded the Young Lions’ fourth and final strike of their 4-1 victory over Austria in a friendly encounter at Luton Town’s Kenilworth Road.

Fellows finished off a flowing England move inside the closing stages, finding the bottom corner with a left-footed effort after meeting a cross from the left side.

Baggies skipper Wallace says it’s “impossible” not to be happy for Tom and believes the youngster’s recognition on the international stage is completely justified given his “brilliant” start to the season.

Jed said: “We’re all absolutely delighted for Tom. Seeing him score for England was brilliant and something we know will mean a lot to him.

“The lads will be thrilled for him because he’s such a good, down-to-earth guy. It’s impossible not to be happy for a guy like Tom.

“He’s been brilliant so far this season and his involvement in the England U21 squad is completely justified. I’m glad he’s getting that recognition on the international stage and hopefully there are more England call-ups for him in the next few months.

“Tom’s such a popular figure within the group, as are the other academy graduates such as Ted Cann, Josh Griffiths and Caleb Taylor. They’re all top lads.

“We know Tom would’ve celebrated last night’s goal in typical fashion by getting himself a glass of water and sticking the snooker on on his ipad.

“Obviously Tom and I play in the same position, but the way he’s started the season, there would be probably about 30 wingers or more sat on the bench watching him play.

“He’ll come back to training and head out with his mannequin and do extras, because that’s just what he does. Everyone will be excited to see him and congratulate him on his success for England.”
