Karlan Grant says he is determined to “prove my worth” in an Albion shirt - and believes his mission has started perfectly after netting against Stoke.
The attacker scored for the first time since returning from a loan spell at Cardiff last season as the Baggies beat the Potters 2-1 on Saturday afternoon.
And ‘KG’ could not hide his delight when speaking to WBA TV following the Sky Bet Championship triumph, hailing fellow winger Tom Fellows, boss Carlos Corberán, and the “unbelievable” 3,000 travelling fans.
“It felt amazing,” reflected Karlan. “I think everyone knows I want to be here and I want to be playing.
“The gaffer has shown a lot of trust in me since I’ve been back, and I’m just grateful that I could get the goal and we could get the win today.
“One-v-one, he (Tom Fellows) is unbelievable. When he does that stepover and pushes it, I know it’s coming into the mixer. I just tried to time my run and power it in.
“The fans were unbelievable. When I came off, in the last five minutes I just saw them bouncing and it was amazing to see. They came in numbers and we’re going to need them.
“It’s been a great start for us and we want to continue it.
“Like I said, I wanted to come back and prove my worth. I’m not going to back down, hide, choose the easy route and maybe go elsewhere.
“I know I’m good enough to play here, 100 per cent, and I know I can score goals at this level. I’ve got off to a good start and long may it continue.
“I thought we were worthy winners when you look at the chances. I think the game was pretty hectic if I’m honest.
“They went man-to-man and it was like a basketball match at times. But we showed determination, we kept pushing through for one another, and I think it’s a deserved three points.
“I’d put our good start to this season down to belief and fight, really. The tactical side, we work on that. But if you go out there and put 100 per cent in, you reap the rewards. We’re doing that at the moment.
“I think the fans were amazing throughout today. They came in numbers and we’re grateful. We’ll always be grateful and long may this continue. I’m just over the moon.”
