Loan Watch | Baggies in Emirates FA Cup first-round action

Fenton Heard in action for Rushall Olympic in their home kit

Three Baggies featured for their loan clubs over the first weekend in November, with two participating in the first round proper of the Emirates FA Cup.

There were mixed fortunes for the Albion men in action with Josh Griffiths advancing through to round two and Fenton Heard dropping out of the tournament.

Goalkeeper Griffiths completed 120 minutes for the Gas who were taken to extra-time by sixth-tier Weston-super-Mare, but eventually ran out 3-1 victors at the Memorial Stadium.

Jamie Lindsay put the hosts ahead but Jordan Bastin equalised after the break to extend the encounter. Connor Taylor and Grant Ward both then scored in the additional period, booking Bristol Rovers a tie at Barnsley in round two.

Elsewhere in the world’s most famous club cup competition, attacking midfielder Heard played an hour on his debut for National League North team Rushall Olympic who suffered a 2-0 home defeat to Sky Bet League Two outfit Accrington Stanley.

The youngster was replaced by Gerry McDonagh moments after the hosts were reduced to ten men following forward Luke Benbow’s second yellow in the space of five minutes.

The professional side took full advantage, scoring twice in the final 17 minutes to secure safe passage with Josh Woods and Tyler Walton finding the net.

Away from the cup, goalkeeper Ronnie Hollingshead completed the entirety of Alvechurch’s 1-0 defeat at AFC Sudbury in the Southern League Premier Central division.

Fellow Baggie Matt Richards was an unused sub for the Church in a contest which was won by Joe Neal’s first-half finish.

The result leaves Alvechurch 14th in the standings.
