Richard Beale's Under-21 side secured their first Premier League Cup victory in a five-goal thriller with Fleetwood Town on Sunday afternoon.
Eseosa Sule's 90th-minute effort proved to be the match-winner - adding to Harry Whitwell's opener and 16-year-old Matt Crowther's effort to see the Baggies add three points to their Group C tally.
The result leaves them third in the four-team table, with Southampton and Swansea City remaining first and second on seven and six points respectively, while the young Baggies have four points in third spot - leaving the Cod Army last with zero points in the competition.
It was Albion who took the lead against Town in the contest at the EcoGiants Stadium over the weekend. Alex Williams' inviting delivery from the left was anticipated, met, and finished on the stretch by Whitwell at the back post with 13 minutes on the clock - his first goal in the tournament.
But the hosts were very much in the game and responded before the break when Owen Devonport converted at the second time of asking with a header, despite Baggies shot-stopper Joe Wallis' best efforts to keep him at bay.
Patience was required during the second 45 as the visitors pushed for another goal, and having impressed in the team after coming into the XI against Dagenham & Redbridge during the week, first-year scholar Crowther showed further evidence of his capability at 21s level.
The U18s man kept the ball well down the right, linking up for a one-two with Ollie Bostock, before finishing beyond the Fleetwood keeper to make it 2-1 with 18 minutes remaining.
And the points were confirmed in the final minute of regular time when Scotsman Sule ran onto a pass from just inside the opposition half, took the ball into his stride, and smashed a left-footed finish in for 3-1.
Devonport struck again for the Cod Army deep into added time to reduce the damage, but not enough to prevent Beale's team returning home with a first PL Cup win of the season.
Their next clash comes against Saints in the same competition at Snows Stadium on Friday, November 22 (ko 7pm).
