Albion earned a 1-1 draw at Sheffield United in their final Sky Bet Championship fixture of 2024 on Sunday afternoon.
Karlan Grant’s goal during first-half stoppage time cancelled out Andre Brooks’ opener, ensuring the spoils were shared.
Next up for the Baggies is a New Year’s Day Hawthorns clash against Preston North End.
The visitors made four changes in South Yorkshire as Callum Styles, Ousmane Diakite, Karlan Grant and Jayson Molumby all started the lunchtime clash, with Alex Mowatt and Mason Holgate both ruled out through injury.
Styles did see an early effort saved yet it was United who took the lead midway through the half, winning the ball high and converting via a low Brooks finish.
Though the hosts did create further chances - Tom Davies firing wide and Kieffer Moore heading off-target - the Baggies were bright in spells, too.
Josh Maja had a tame shot comfortably gathered and Tom Fellows hit a rebound over before the deserved equaliser eventually arrived thanks to Grant’s superb, low strike.
Following the interval, Albion went searching for a second and almost found it twice - Michael Cooper stopping Grant from nodding home at close-range and also pushing away his venomous, later attempt.
But Sheffield United turned the tide in their direction and carved themselves opportunities. Tom Davies dragged an effort wide, then doing the same with an overhead kick, and the Baggies valiantly defended a barrage of long-throws and other attacks.
Down the other end, substitute Jed Wallace saw a free-kick kept out, before the Baggies held on towards the final minutes and ensured they took a fantastic point back to B71.
