A talented full-back, Alfie will hope his ability can carry him to the next stage of his career at The Hawthorns. 

Maughan, hailing from Tamworth, has been in the Baggies' youth system right from the off, first signing terms with the club as a six-year-old. 

Alfie's capabilities with both feet make him a useful player for the future, with the versatile defender able to cover numerous positions, as well as deliver set plays using his left or right foot depending on which side he's asked to provide from.

While still in the U16s, the full-back played a large part of the 2023/24 term in Leigh Downing's scholarship group. 

Maughan continued impressing after signing scholarship terms in 2024, ending the 24/25 campaign with an outstanding 14 assists to his name.  

Those performances didn't go unnoticed by the club's academy staff, with Alfie also featuring in the 21s team in the Premier League 2 and National League Cup competitions over the course of the season. That focus and evident progression earned its just rewards at the end of fixture schedule when Maughan penned pro terms at the Albion. 

The full-back signed a two-year professional contract until June 2027, allowing him more time to show his worth to the Baggies.
