Kyle Bartley in action at The Hawthorns

West Bromwich Albion will have their sights set on a third consecutive league victory for the first time since August 2021 when Stoke City visit The Hawthorns on Saturday afternoon (ko 3pm).

The Baggies have won their last two games by 1-0 scorelines, beating Blackpool at home before earning an impressive triumph at high-flying QPR.

Stoke City sit five points above the Baggies in mid-table having played one more match than Carlos Corberán's men.

They've won two of their last three games and secured three points at home to Luton Town on Tuesday night. Nick Powell and an own goal from Tom Lockyer earned the Potters a 2-0 victory at the bet365 Stadium.

Stoke City will arrive at The Hawthorns on Saturday afternoon hoping to secure consecutive victories for the second time this campaign.

The Potters had a successful night on Tuesday in their most recent game, beating Luton Town 2-0 on home soil.

But inconsistency has been an issue for Alex Neil's team so far this term, with Stoke winning four and losing four of their last eight fixtures.

Neil was appointed in August after leaving Sunderland, who he helped guide back into the second tier via the Sky Bet League One play-offs in the 2021/22 season.

The current campaign is Stoke's fifth in the Sky Bet Championship following their relegation from the Premier League in 2018. Saturday's visitors are yet to finish in the top half of the division since then, with the supporters desperate to see that change this time around.

From the Albion Archive

Albion sealed three Premier League points against Stoke City in dramatic circumstances in January 2016.

Stephane Sessegnon opened the scoring in the second-half but Jon Walters headed in an 81st-minute equaliser.

However, the Baggies weren't to be denied a victory and won it late into stoppage time thanks to Jonny Evans' effort.

One for the stattos

Albion will want to earn their 50th victory over the Potters in what will be the 150th meeting between the two teams this weekend.

The Baggies have won 49, lost 63 and drawn 37 of their previous 149 games against Stoke City.

Kyle Bartley celebrates with his teammates against Stoke

Albion ensured they will head into the World Cup break off the back of three consecutive victories thanks to a 2-0 win over Stoke City on Saturday.

Goals either side of half-time from Kyle Bartley and Brandon Thomas-Asante - the latter of which was a spectacular overhead kick - were enough to see Carlos Corberàn’s team gather all three Sky Bet Championship points at The Hawthorns.

The boss made two changes as he brought Conor Townsend and Thomas-Asante into the XI – also naming Daryl Dike on the bench for the first time since July.

And his side made an electric start, almost going ahead inside the opening minute when John Swift’s finish was scrambled off the line.

In fact, Albion dominated near enough the whole first half. Thomas-Asante went close via a header before Matty Phillips saw one deflected wide on the half-hour mark, with Bartley also crashing an effort against the crossbar soon after.

Thankfully they were finally rewarded for their persistent pressure 6 minutes from the break – a sumptuous John Swift cross superbly powered home by Bartley, his second goal in as many matches.

The Baggies’ No.5 might have doubled his, and Albion’s, tally seconds later – though this time he nodded narrowly wide, ensuring it was 1-0 at half-time.

Would Corberàn’s men be able to build on their dominance following the interval? You bet. And in some style, too.

In the 51st minute a Stoke defender deflected Darnell Furlong’s cross up into the air, giving Thomas-Asante the opportunity to send an acrobatic volley past Jack Bonham and deservedly double Albion’s lead.

The visitors tried to hit back, Lewis Baker drawing an excellent save out of Alex Palmer their best opportunity.

But the Baggies soaked up Stoke’s late pressure and earned another valuable three points – moving out of the Championship relegation zone and sending a huge Hawthorns crowd home happy.
