West Bromwich Albion will be hoping to secure back-to-back victories in the Sky Bet Championship for the first time this season when they travel to QPR on Saturday afternoon (ko 3pm).

Carlos Corberán's men earned a well-deserved and much-needed three points against Blackpool on Tuesday at The Hawthorns, a result which halted a three-game losing run.

Hosts QPR have enjoyed a successful first few months of season and sit towards the top end of the division.

They drew 0-0 at Norwich City on Wednesday night, a result which left them fourth in the table and just two points off the automatic promotion places.

Our opponents

QPR are hoping the 2022/23 campaign will bring about a return to English football's top table after an eight-season exodus from the Premier League.

The R's are flying high this term and are hunting down a spot in the top two of the Sky Bet Championship, with just two points and two places keeping them from that target as things stand ahead of this weekend's round of fixtures.

Michael Beale took the job, his first a manager after several stints as an assistant, in the summer and has already delivered some impressive results. Rangers have enjoyed eye-catching away victories over Watford, Millwall and Sheffield United, while at home, they've suffered just one league defeat in eight games.

Saturday's hosts have won three on the spin at Loftus Road, but they've only taken one point from their last two matches which have come away from the capital, losing 2-0 at Birmingham City and then drawing 0-0 at Norwich City.

Rangers have promotion hopes this season

From the Albion Archive

Albion won a five-goal thriller at Loftus Road in February 2019.

The Baggies went ahead early through Jefferson Montero but QPR equalised before the break thanks to Luke Freeman.

Jacob Murphy made it 2-1 to the visitors after the interval but yet again Rangers equalised, this time courtesy of Tomer Hemed's penalty.

However, Albion weren't to be denied three points and won it late on when Jake Livermore slotted home from close range.

One for the stattos

Only one of the last nine encounters between QPR and West Bromwich Albion have ended level.

That game came on the final day of the 2019/20 campaign, when a 2-2 draw was enough to see the Baggies promoted to the Premier League.

An image of Kyle Bartley celebrating with his teammates at QPR

Kyle Bartley’s second half header was the difference at Loftus Road as Albion beat QPR 1-0 on Saturday afternoon.

The Baggies put in a resolute defensive showing, and were clinical when their chance came, on their way to claiming back-to-back league wins for the first time this season - giving Carlos Corberàn his second victory since taking charge less than two weeks ago.

Albion return to action next Saturday when they host Stoke City – their final fixture ahead of the World Cup break.

The boss made two changes to his starting XI, bringing Erik Pieters, Jayson Molumby and Grady Diangana in for Conor Townsend, Taylor Gardner-Hickman and the injured Karlan Grant.

And his team began the game well. Diangana might have done better with an awkward close-range rebound early on before John Swift had one deflected past the post and Darnell Furlong headed a corner off-target – all in the opening 15 minutes.

The hosts then grew into the contest and created two decent opportunities ahead of half-time, but former Albion youth player Tim Iroegbunam fired wide and Alex Palmer superbly denied Lydon Dykes’ low shot, ensuring it was goalless at the break.

Following a reasonably quiet start to the second period, where QPR had the majority of possession, it was Albion who took the lead on 68 minutes.

Bartley roamed forward and won a free-kick deep in QPR’s half, which Swift curled straight onto his head and home – sending the 1,400 travelling Baggies supporters wild.

QPR pushed for an equaliser as time ticked away, though Palmer remained untroubled as Albion held firm to earn an important three points.

Albion: Palmer; Furlong, Bartley, O’Shea, Pieters (Townsend 84); Molumby, Yokuslu (Livermore 90); Wallace (Gardner-Hickman 90), Swift, Diangana (Thomas-Asante 64); Phillips (Reach 84).

Substitutes: Button, Rogic.
