West Bromwich Albion welcome Midlands neighbours Coventry City to The Hawthorns on Friday night (ko 8pm).

Carlos Corberán's men have suffered league and cup defeats at Burnley and Bristol City respectively in recent weeks, and they'll be keen to return to winning ways when the Sky Blues come to town this weekend.

Visitors Coventry City beat Huddersfield Town 2-0 in the Sky Bet Championship last Saturday and remain in play-off contention, sitting just a handful of points off the top six.

Both teams will celebrate the life and legacy of Cyrille Regis On Friday in B71.

The fixture between two sides for which Cyrille made more than 500 appearances will also serve as the club's annual Kick it Out game, with players wearing the anti-discrimination campaign group’s T-shirts during the pre-match warm-up.

The Cyrille Regis Legacy Trust – Albion's official charity partner for the 2022/23 season – will also be in attendance as the Baggies highlight the important role Cyrille played in advancing the cause of race relations both in football and wider society.

Supporters attending the game are invited to wear the club’s 2022/23 yellow-and-green away kit, which is dedicated to the Cyrille Regis Legacy Trust and features Cyrille’s favourite quotes.

Coventry City will head to The Hawthorns looking to arrest a three-game losing streak away from the CBS Arena.

The Sky Blues, who recently lost creative spark Callum O'Hare to an unfortunate long-term injury, have suffered defeats at Reading, Sheffield United and Burnley, last winning on the road before the break for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Saturday's 2-0 victory over relegation-threatened Huddersfield Town on home soil was a welcome one. It proved to be just their second win in 10 games in all competitions and halted a run of three straight defeats following setbacks against Wrexham, Burnley and Norwich.

They do, however, remain in a strong position to challenge for a spot in the top six of the division. Ahead of Friday's fixture, the Sky Blues find themselves 13th and just five points behind sixth with a game in hand over some of the teams currently occupying a play-off spot.

Mark Robins, now into his second spell in charge at the club, has been at the helm since March 2017 and is the fourth-longest serving manager in the EFL.

One for the stattos

The Baggies have a strong recent home record against the Sky Blues, winning six of the last ten league meetings with Friday's opponents in B71.

Coventry City have won just one of those ten matches - a 4-2 triumph in December 2007 courtesy of doubles from Leon Best and Michael Mifsud.

Albion bounced back from a duo of defeats to beat Coventry City 1-0 at The Hawthorns on Friday night.

Grady Diangana netted the deciding goal inside 15 minutes to ensure his side claimed an important Sky Bet Championship triumph.

The result lifts the Baggies up to 5th in the table ahead of this weekend’s other matches, and sees them win six consecutive home league games without conceding for the first time since 1977.

The match was chosen as Albion’s Kick It Out fixture and also dedicated to club legend Cyrille Regis, with two of his most notable former teams going head-to-head the week before his birthday.

The boss was forced into a change of goalkeeper as the injured Alex Palmer made way for David Button, and he also named new signing Marc Albrighton in his starting XI – while Nathaniel Chalobah was on the bench.

The Baggies made a blistering start in a rousing Hawthorns atmosphere, Jayson Molumby seeing an early shot blocked, Daryl Dike heading over and Jed Wallace smashing off-target.

Coventry caused panic when danger-man Viktor Gyokeres poked wide from close-range; other than that, though, it was Albion dominating play.

And they got their reward 15 minutes in, Wallace flicking Darnell Furlong’s long-throw to the back post, where Diangana was there to hammer home his fourth goal of the season.

The hosts continued to have the better of the clash, but Wallace - despite two good efforts - couldn’t convert a clever corner routine or find the bottom corner with a fantastic curled finish, ensuring it remained 1-0 come half-time.

Albion began the second period well and might have doubled their lead through Dike, however his side-footed volley was saved by Ben Wilson.

City then pressed for an equaliser, Button saving a Gustavo Hamer free-kick and Gyokeres sending a powerful strike into the Smethwick End.

And with time ticking away Corberán’s men kept holding firm. Dara O’Shea was on hand to brilliantly, and bravely, block another Hamer attempt – but the visitors didn’t really threaten again and Albion earned three important points.
