West Bromwich Albion are back in Sky Bet Championship action on Tuesday night when they take on automatic promotion-chasing Burnley at Turf Moor (ko 7.45pm).

Both teams are heading into the encounter on the back of home weekend victories. The Baggies defeated QPR 1-0 at The Hawthorns thanks to Adam Armstrong's penalty, while the Clarets earned a comfortable 4-0 triumph at Turf Moor over relegation-threatened Luton Town.

The two sides drew 0-0 in the reverse fixture back in the West Midlands in early November. It was the fourth time in the last five meetings they couldn't be separated and ended up both taking a point.

WBA Matchday

The hosts

Burnley are mounting a serious title charge and will head into Tuesday's tussle just two points adrift of top two Leeds United and Sheffield United.

The Clarets have been promoted to the Premier League in all of the last three seasons they've competed in the Sky Bet Championship - winning the division in 2015/16 and more recently in 2022/23, as well as finishing runners up in 2013/14.

With just ten second-tier matches remaining now, they'll fancy their chances of bettering the results of the two teams above them in the standings, with the Blades also due to visit Turf Moor in late April.

They remain the only unbeaten side at home in the Championship, winning ten and drawing eight of their 18 encounters in front of their own supporters.

A huge reason for their success so far this term has been their defensive solidity. Scott Parker's side have shipped just ten in 36 matches, and just four in 18 at Turf Moor.

Parker, a former England international midfielder, has also managed Fulham, AFC Bournemouth and Club Brugge. The 44-year-old, who led both the Cottagers and the Cherries to Premier League promotion, was appointed last summer and has won 22, drawn 14 and lost just four of his 40 games in charge.

The Baggies will be determined to end the Clarets' terrific unbeaten league run. Burnley have gone 23 games without a defeat - a sequence which started with a 0-0 draw at The Hawthorns back in early November. Millwall were the last team to take maximum points off them in the Championship, winning 1-0 at The Den on November 3, 2024.

One from the history books

Jason Roberts' first-half brace helped the Baggies claim an important 2-0 win at Turf Moor against Burnley in February 2002.

The striker's double proved to be enough for Gary Megson's men up in Lancashire. That positive result was one of several during the 2001/02 campaign which earned the club promotion to the Premier League for the very first time.

The stats

Albion will be hoping to claim their first victory over Burnley since a 1-0 Premier League triumph at Turf Moor in August 2017. Hal Robson-Kanu bagged the winner that day. Since then, Burnley have remained undefeated in this fixture, winning two and drawing four of the six head-to-heads.

Tuesday night's clash will be the 137th between two of the founding members of the Football League.

Four of the last five meetings have ended level, with three of those ending 0-0 including the reverse fixture in November. Both matches between the clubs finished goalless in the 2020/21 Premier League campaign.

Tony Mowbray will be coming up against Burnley for the 16th time in his managerial career. He's won four, drawn four and lost seven of his previous 15 clashes with the Clarets. The game will be Mowbray's 150th in charge of the Albion.

Burnley are the only side left in the division yet to lose at home. Their league record in front of their fans in 2024/25 reads played 18, won 10, drawn 8.

Albion drew 1-1 with automatic promotion-chasing Burnley at Turf Moor on Tuesday night.

John Swift’s brilliant free-kick had put the visitors ahead after 20 minutes of the contest, only for Zian Flemming to respond within a matter of minutes from close range to level things up.

Mikey Johnston and Jaidon Anthony both struck the crossbar during the second period - with CJ Egan-Riley and Clarets head coach Scott Parker receiving red cards following the full-time whistle - but those chances were as close as either team came to a winner, resulting in a share of the spoils.

Boss Tony Mowbray made five changes to the starting XI as Swift, Mason Holgate, Ousmane Diakité, Grady Diangana and Karlan Grant came into the team.

Despite their superior, undefeated home league record, it was the visitors who made a strong start and stamped their mark on proceedings early doors.

Strong forward runs down the centre of the field helped the Baggies’ cause, and it was from the middle - just outside the 18-yard box to be specific - where the deadlock would be broken from in Lancashire.

Swift stretched well to win a free-kick, and the No.10 stepped up to convert the resulting effort in style - firing into the top corner superbly beyond James Trafford in the Clarets net to make it 1-0.

Deserved after their start to the match but, sadly, Albion’s joy would be short-lived as within minutes, Parker’s side were level - Flemming finding himself in the right place to poke in after visiting goalkeeper Joe Wildsmith had parried an effort into the Dutchman’s path.

He couldn't miss and as expected, Burnley grew in confidence and control - applying plenty of pressure on the Baggies goal, but without really forcing the Wildsmith into any further saves of note.

Adam Armstrong had a good chance to return the away team to the ascendency going in at the break, latching onto Diangana’s through ball into the area. But, off balance, he could only fire straight at Trafford, who kept things even for the start of the second 45.

Chances came soon after the restart; Isaac Price shooting just over the target from the edge of the box, while Anthony bent a curling effort beyond Wildsmith but onto the crossbar as both teams fought for the next goal.

It turned out to be a very stop-start half due to a number of injuries occurring throughout the second period.

But after coming to the Baggies’ rescue, the framework also saved the home team too when substitute Johnston fired a deflected attempt off the bar from a glorious position.

That was as close as either team came to a winner but there was still time for late drama - defender Egan-Riley receiving his marching orders for lashing out at Will Lankshear once the final whistle had gone, before Burnley boss Parker also saw red for protesting with referee Gavin Ward.

Regardless, the end result saw Mowbray’s men leave Turf Moor with a well-earned point heading into the final game before the March international break against Hull City at The Hawthorns on Saturday (ko 3pm).
