West Bromwich Albion host Sheffield United in the Sky Bet Championship on Sunday afternoon (ko 3pm).

The Baggies are on a ten-game unbeaten run, but will also be frustrated with their return of just one victory from their last 12 league fixtures.

Carlos Corberán's men drew 1-1 at Preston North End in their most recent encounter, with Karlan Grant bagging his fourth goal of the 2024/25 campaign.

Visitors Sheffield United have made a terrific start to the term and have won six of their last seven matches.

The Blades secured a narrow 1-0 triumph at home to fellow high-flyers Sunderland last Friday night and they'll be intent on continuing their good form through the festive period.

The visitors

Sheffield United's primary focus this season will be earning promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

The Blades, who finished bottom of the top flight in 2023/24, have certainly shown their credentials in the first few months of the term, winning two thirds of their opening 18 matches, losing just twice.

They head to The Hawthorns unbeaten in seven, claiming triumphs in six of those while also keeping five clean sheets.

The Blades have picked up 15 points from nine matches away from Bramall Lane so far this campaign, securing four victories and three draws. Their away wins have come against Preston North End (2-0), Hull City (2-0), Blackburn Rovers (2-0) and Bristol City (2-1).

Middlesbrough were the last team to beat Sunday's visitors - a 1-0 setback for Chris Wilder's group at the Riverside Stadium on October 23.

Wilder is a man who knows Sheffield United incredibly well. The boyhood Blades fan was appointed boss for the second time in his career in December 2023 having also managed the club for five years between 2016 and 2021.

During his time at United, the 57-year-old has won promotion in two different divisions - Sky Bet League One in 2016/17 as champions and Sky Bet Championship in 2018/19 as runners-up.

A right-back in his playing days, Wilder made over a century of appearances for Sheffield United, meaning he's represented the club around 400 times as both a footballer and a manager.

One from the history books

The Baggies delivered a brilliant performance to beat the Blades 4-0 at The Hawthorns in August 2021.

Jack Robinson's first-half own goal was followed up in the second half by efforts from Dara O'Shea, Alex Mowatt and Callum Robinson.

The stats

West Bromwich Albion last went 11 games unbeaten during a run of 14 between October and December in 2019 under Slaven Bilic.

Sheffield United's last visit to The Hawthorns in October 2022 was Carlos Corberán's first match in charge of West Bromwich Albion. The Blades won that encounter 2-0 courtesy of strikes from Iliman Ndiaye and Oli McBurnie.

The Baggies and the Blades have suffered the joint-fewest defeats in the division, both losing just two of their 18 league fixtures.

In the last nine head-to-head matches at The Hawthorns in all competitions, both teams have scored just once - a 3-1 Albion triumph in the second tier in January 2010.

Albion have won three of their last four home games against Sheffield United in all competitions. They've kept a clean sheet in all three fixtures.

Albion drew 2-2 with Sheffield United in treacherous conditions at The Hawthorns on Sunday afternoon.

Torbjorn Heggem’s header gave the Baggies a deserved lead, yet quickfire goals from Callum O’Hare and Tyrese Campbell 10 minutes ahead of half-time turned it around.

Tom Fellows’ deflected second period strike grabbed the hosts a deserved point, though, and made it 11 games unbeaten.

Carlos Corberán’s men are back home this Wednesday when they host Coventry City.

The boss reinstated Callum Styles and Mikey Johnston to his starting XI - and they began really brightly despite the horrendous weather.

Darnell Furlong’s well-caught volley was bravely blocked inside three minutes - and Johnston saw a drive saved - before the opener arrived via Alex Mowatt’s corner, which Heggem fantastically flicked home.

But two goals in two minutes flipped the contest on its head - as O’Hare poached an equaliser, and moments later Campbell converted Harrison Burrows’ cross for 1-2.

The Baggies were perhaps fortunate not to concede another soon after, Sydie Peck curling over, leaving them only one down at the break.

United started the second period quickly and forced Palmer into a good save to deny Campbell another.

However, Albion stayed in the game and grabbed a leveller through a slice of luck, with Fellows’ shot taking a huge deflection off a United defender and looping in.

They had opportunities to win it, too. Johnston struck a shot wildly off-target inside the box, substitute Uros Racic smashed over, and Furlong flicked a corner just wide, leaving the spoils to be shared in B71.

Albion: Palmer; Furlong, Bartley, Heggem, Styles (Holgate 80); Fellows, Molumby, Mowatt (Racic 73), Johnston (Swift 87); Grant, Maja (Cole 87).

Substitutes: Wildsmith, Frabotta, Diakite, Wallace, Dobbin.

Attendance: 24,930 (2,484).
