The Baggies are back on their travels for the second time in five days this Saturday, making the journey north to take on Preston North End at Deepdale in the Sky Bet Championship (ko 3pm).

Carlos Corberán's men held high-flying Sunderland to a goalless draw at the Stadium of Light on Tuesday, a result which extended their unbeaten run to nine matches.

Hosts Preston also drew 0-0 on the same night, earning a point away at Stoke City. They had goalkeeper Freddie Woodman sent off late on at the bet365 Stadium, meaning he'll be suspended for this weekend's fixture.

Albion won both clashes against the Lilywhites last season, securing a 4-0 triumph at Deepdale in September before going on to claim a comfortable 3-0 success at The Hawthorns on the final day of the campaign.

The hosts

Preston North End go into their tussle with the Baggies hoping to end a difficult run of eight games without a win in all competitions.

The Lilywhites sit just two points above the danger zone heading into the latest round of Sky Bet Championship matches having earned 17 from their opening 17 fixtures.

Only QPR and Portsmouth have won fewer games than Preston's three, with their last arriving on October 19 - a 1-0 home triumph against Coventry City.

All three of those victories have come at Deepdale though, a place where Saturday's opponents have only suffered two defeats in their nine second-tier outings.

Paul Heckingbottom is Preston's boss. He was appointed on August 20, replacing Ryan Lowe who left by mutual consent following their opening day defeat to Heckingbottom's former club, Sheffield United.

The 47-year-old guided the Blades to Premier League promotion in 2022/23, but then left in December 2023. He played for a host of teams as a player, representing Darlington, Norwich City, Bradford City and Sheffield Wednesday to name a few. As a manager, he has also held positions at Barnsley, Hibernian and Leeds United.

Heckingbottom has a record of four wins, nine draws and five defeats from 18 games in charge of North End. His record against the Albion reads played four, won three, lost one.

One from the history books

Albion delivered a four-midable display to beat Preston 4-0 at Deepdale last season.

Darnell Furlong's fierce strike from the edge of the box was followed up before the break by Alex Mowatt's tidy finish.

Matty Phillips added a third in the second period and Kyle Bartley made it four in the dying stages.

The stats

The Baggies have also secured maximum points in eight of their last 11 league games when facing North End (L2, D1).

Both teams have scored in just one of the last eight meetings between the two teams - a 1-1 draw at Deepdale in September 2021.

Only two of the last 24 fixtures between the Baggies and the Lilywhites have ended level.

Combined, Albion and Preston have played 34 matches in the Sky Bet Championship this season. Half of those games have ended in draws, with the Baggies drawing nine encounters and North End drawing eight.

Albion and Preston shared the Sky Bet Championship spoils with a 1-1 draw on Saturday afternoon.

Emil Riis’ second-half strike cancelled out a sumptuous, early Karlan Grant goal at Deepdale.

The Baggies, now unbeaten in 10 matches despite nine of those being ties, have eight days until their next fixture, when they host Sheffield United next Sunday.

Carlos Corberán made three changes from the Sunderland draw, bringing in Darnell Furlong, Uros Racic and Lewis Dobbin - the latter starting for the first time since joining.

His side began strongly and - after Grant had an earlier effort tipped around the post - the in-form attacker gave Albion the lead on 13 minutes.

A wonderful move involving Mason Holgate, Josh Maja and Tom Fellows played Albion’s No.18 through, and his delicate dink sent the 3,000-strong away fans wild.

Preston attempted a comeback before the break mainly via Josh Bowler, who saw one effort saved, another fly wide and a third cleared excellently off the line by Holgate.

The Baggies resumed control quickly, though, and saw out the remainder of the period to take in a one-goal advantage.

North End came flying out following the interval and almost equalised immediately, finding Torbjorn Heggem in the way as he bravely blocked Andrew Hughes’ close-range smash.

But the leveller did arrive on the 55-minute mark, Riis finishing well into the bottom corner and making it 1-1.

Midway through the half, the visitors eventually regained their composure, stopped Preston scoring again and flipped the game’s momentum.

Substitute Jayson Molumby was unbelievably denied inside the box when Albion took advantage of a quick free-kick, while Grant also watched a PNE defender deflect his shot wide.

Down the other end, Palmer excellently parried Sam Greenwood’s set-piece and Ali McCann fired over - however they were the last chances, ensuring a point apiece.

Albion: Palmer; Furlong, Holgate, Bartley, Heggem; Fellows (Johnston 75), Racic (Swift 85), Mowatt (Molumby 68), Dobbin (Styles 68); Grant, Maja (Wallace 85).

Substitutes: Wildsmith, Diomande, Frabotta, Cole.
