The visitors

Norwich City head to The Hawthorns hoping to halt a run of three straight defeats in the Sky Bet Championship.

The Canaries, who are without a win in any of their last six, suffered a trio of setbacks against Cardiff City (1-2), Sheffield Wednesday (2-0) and Bristol City (2-0) prior to the international break.

There have been plenty of goals scored in Norwich City matches so far in 2024/25, with 45 being notched in 15 fixtures in which Saturday's guests have been involved in. City are one of the top scorers in the second tier with 23, but they've also conceded plenty, shipping 22.

In 23-year-old Spanish attacker Borja Sainz, they boast the division's top scorer with 11. Sainz, who was sent off at The Hawthorns last term, has found the net in eight second-tier matches already, bagging 12 goals in all competitions in 17 appearances.

On their travels, Norwich have won two, drawn two and lost four of their eight encounters and are currently on a four-game winless run (L2, D2).

Last season's beaten play-off semi-finalists are managed by Johannes Hoff Thorup, a 35-year-old Dane who was appointed in the summer following the departure of David Wagner. Thorup joined the club from Danish top-flight side Nordsjaelland where he had been in charge since January 2023.

His record as Norwich City boss reads played 17, won five, drawn six and lost six.

The stats

Albion are seven games unbeaten in the Sky Bet Championship (D6, W1). The last time they went eight without defeat in the second tier was during a run of 10 between February and April earlier on this calendar year.

The Baggies have kept a clean sheet in six of their seven home league matches so far in 2024/25, while also registering a shutout in eight of the last nine at The Hawthorns in all competitions. However, Carlos Corberán's men have failed to win or score in any of their last four in front of their own supporters, recording three successive 0-0 draws.

Albion have lost just two games in the league this season - the division's joint-fewest amount of matches.

Only two of the last 21 meetings in all competitions between Albion and Norwich have ended level. The Baggies have won 10 of the remaining 19, with the Canaries picking up nine victories.

Saturday's guests are winless in six. They last time they went seven without a win was during a run of 11 matches without a triumph between April and August in 2022.

Ahead of matchweek 16 fixtures, the 45 goals scored in games involving Norwich City was a joint-high in the Sky Bet Championship. There have been 25 goals scored in matches involving West Bromwich Albion.

Albion and Norwich played out a thrilling 2-2 Sky Bet Championship draw at The Hawthorns on Saturday afternoon.

Mason Holgate’s opener was turned around by the visitors, courtesy of Emiliano Marcondes and an own-goal.

However, Josh Maja’s excellent 10th strike this season ensured the Baggies took their share, with all four goals coming in a frantic first-half.

Carlos Corberán’s 6th-placed men visit Sunderland on Tuesday next.

The boss named an unchanged XI from the pre-international break victory over Hull.

His side snatched an 11th minute lead when a short corner routine saw Karlan Grant cross to Mason Holgate, who flicked home his first goal since re-joining in the summer.

But that lead didn’t last very long as Norwich found a leveller midway through the half. Jack Stacey was set free down the right and he found Marcondes for 1-1.

The visitors almost went ahead soon after - Borja Sainz taking advantage of a mishap to fire a volley goalwards, yet Alex Palmer was there to keep his effort out.

It was an enthralling match and there was not let up. Grant fizzed one inches wide and Mikey Johnston saw a shot held before City had another go - Amankwah Forson dipping an attempt just past the post.

Norwich then netted through an own-goal, Heggem accidentally poking in following quick play around the area.

Albion grabbed an immediate equaliser, though, via Maja - the striker wonderfully converting Tom Fellows’ ball to make it 2-2.

And still there was more drama. A Johnston drive hit a Norwich player and fell to Grant - the forward finishing superbly, only for the referee to judge he handballed during the build-up.

The chances continued into the second period, too. Angus Gunn saved a Jayson Molumby shot and Holgate guided the resulting corner off-target early on.

Meanwhile the Baggies defended Sainz’s counter-attack superbly, ensuring he didn’t really trouble Palmer at the end.

Fellows and Johnston both struck over - as did Sainz - when the game quitened down and looked to be heading for a draw.

A string of substitutions from both teams didn’t quite have the desired outcome either, meaning they took a point each come full-time.

The result means Albion are unbeaten in eight, despite seven of those being draws.

Albion: Palmer; Furlong, Holgate, Heggem, Styles; Fellows (Dobbin 70), Molumby, Mowatt (Racic 70), Johnston (Dobbin 70); Grant (Swift 90), Maja (Cole 83).

Substitutes: Wildsmith, Frabotta, Diakite, Whitwell.

Attendance: 25,673 (2,512).
