West Bromwich Albion have the opportunity to bounce back from back-to-back defeats against Sheffield Wednesday and Middlesbrough when Millwall visit The Hawthorns on Saturday afternoon (ko 3pm).

The Baggies suffered narrow setbacks in both fixtures, losing 3-2 at Hillsborough last weekend and 1-0 in front of their own supporters in midweek.

Visitors Millwall also lost their most recent match, falling to a 1-0 reverse at Cardiff City on Tuesday.

Both games between the Albion and the Lions ended level last season - 0-0 in the West Midlands and 1-1 in the capital.

The visitors

Millwall head to The Hawthorns this weekend having taken eight points from their opening eight Sky Bet Championship matches.

They've won two, drawn two and lost four, scoring 12 goals and conceding 11.

The Lions, who are five unbeaten at Albion in all competitions, suffered a narrow 1-0 reverse at Cardiff City in midweek, that coming after a 1-1 draw at QPR and a 3-1 home victory over Preston North End.

On their travels, the Londoners have drawn two (Hull & QPR) and lost two (Bristol City & Cardiff City) of their four fixtures.

The 2024/25 campaign is Millwall's eighth consecutive term in the second tier, finishing 13th or higher in six of the previous seven seasons.

Club legend Neil Harris is the boss. The 47-year-old is the Lions' record scorer with 138 to his name, enjoying two successful stints at The Den as a player between 1998 and 2004, and then 2007 to 2011.

He's currently in his second spell as Millwall's permanent boss having also held the position between 2015 and 2019. He was reappointed in February 2024 after managing Gillingham and Cambridge United, holding an overall record of 271 matches in charge (permanent or temporary), during which time he's won 113, drawn 71 and lost 87.

The stats

Albion are winless in their last five home games against Millwall in all competitions, drawing four in-a-row in front of their own supporters. The last time the Baggies defeated the Lions at their own ground was back in September 2018 (2-0).

Carlos Corberán will take on Millwall for the eighth time in his managerial career on Saturday. He's won two, drawn three and lost two against the Lions.

Neil Harris has faced West Bromwich Albion nine times combined as a player and a manager and has only lost twice.

Neither West Bromwich Albion nor Millwall have managed to score more than two goals in this fixture since the Baggies scored three in a 3-0 home victory against the Lions in Division One in March 1995.

Albion have three former Millwall players in their squad - Jed Wallace, Jayson Molumby and Callum Styles.

Albion were held to a 0-0 draw with Millwall in the Sky Bet Championship on Saturday afternoon.

The Baggies were unable to find a way through and earn three points at The Hawthorns ahead of the October international break.

Carlos Corberán’s men next play in two weeks’ time, travelling to Oxford United (ko 12:30pm).

The boss made four alterations for what was Albion’s third game of the week - bringing in Jayson Molumby, Mikey Johnston, Grady Diangana and Tom Fellows.

The hosts dominated possession during a goalless opening half, creating the majority of chances without breaking down their stubborn visitors.

The best opportunity was probably the first which the Baggies made, Semi Ajayi and Tom Fellows linking up superbly and Josh Maja firing the finishing touch over.

Albion’s No.9 saw another shot blocked, as did Johnston, while Millwall goalkeeper Lukas Jensen also denied long-range efforts by Kyle Bartley and the aforementioned Maja.

Neil Harris’ Lions did have their moments, too. Palmer had to deny a deflected Danny McNamara attempt, while they threatened towards the break via Romain Esse and Femi Azeez.

It was more of the same following the restart, as Corberán’s men enjoyed more ball but could not force a goal, and they needed to remain resolute down the other end when Millwall threatened.

The away team twice headed into Palmer’s arms before Albion tested them again in front of a packed Hawthorns crowd - Maja the man to do it, his low side-footer blocked, leaving Jensen to claim comfortably.

Corberán introduced attacking players from the bench throughout the second period, yet chances dried up for both teams.

And even though five minutes were added on, no winner arrived and the clubs shared the spoils.

Albion: Palmer; Furlong, Bartley, Ajayi, Heggem; Molumby (Racic 75), Mowatt; Fellows Swift 81), Diangana (Wallace 90), Johnston (Dobbin 75); Maja (Grant 90).

Substitutes: Wildsmith, Holgate, McNair, Styles.

Attendance: 24,158 (1,255).
