Albion left disappointed following cup thriller
SPORTING Club Albion Ladies lost their second Premier League Cup Group 3 clash 7-5 at Derby County on Sunday.
Strikes for Ashleigh Neville and Emily Owen, in addition to an own goal and a Robyn James brace, should have been enough to earn all three points for the Baggies.
And Albion boss Dave Lawrence was disappointed with his side’s defensive display following the 12-goal cup tie.
“It was a massively frustrating afternoon, full of defensive areas, but I won’t pinpoint the individuals who made mistakes, as everyone across the team did,” said Lawrence.
“We are not good enough to make so many errors and still win a game of football.
“After the game I highlighted the fact that if we are to be taken seriously in this league, the most basic of errors cannot take place again.
“Giving the ball away when in good possession shouldn’t be happening at this level and it’s frustrating as defending and ball retention are the two things we have concentrated on most in training.
“We have two league games coming up against Leicester and Wolves and we need to bounce back.
“The league is our bread and butter, so to an extent I am relieved that this poor performance didn’t affect our league ambitions.”
