Baggies stay third after stalemate
SPORTING Club Albion Ladies remain third in the FA Women’s Premier League (Northern Division) after drawing 1-1 with Blackburn at The Grove, Halesowen, on Sunday.
Ashleigh Neville’s 65-minute strike levelled the scores after Rovers took a first-half lead - but the result leaves the Baggies three points behind second-placed Nottingham with four games left.
Remarkably, it is Albion’s first stalemate in 23 outings this season, after winning 13 and losing nine of their previous 22 fixtures.
First team coach Lee Wood was pleased with the side’s second-half display as they stretched their unbeaten run to four games.
“We pressed all over the park and the work rate for each other was great to see,” said Wood.
“We showed great character to come back from 1-0 down and keep on the unbeaten run, however, I feel we really deserved to come away with all three points.”
Albion Ladies now turn their attention to Sunday’s trip to fourth-placed Preston North End (Bko 2pm).
