SCA set sights on second
SPORTING Club Albion could move up to second in the FA Women’s Premier League (Northern Division) when they host mid-table Blackburn at The Grove, Halesowen, this Sunday (ko 2pm).
The Baggies go into the game on the back of three successive victories and, with five games remaining, will be hoping to make ground on runaway-leaders Sheffield.
With manager Dave Lawrence coaching in Nigeria, assistant coaches Lee Wood and Richard Holmes take control of Sunday’s game.
“We are hoping to continue the run, however, we are aware that Blackburn are a strong team,” said Wood.
“If we can show the form we have shown as of late and, the team spirit and professionalism comes through, I have no doubt we can come away with all three points.”
Sunday will see Albion play Rovers for the first time this season due to poor weather conditions and a jam-packed cup schedule.
But Wood insists the Baggies need to win this weekend’s fixture if they are to end their season on a high.
“Due to the weather shifting the league programme around, it now means that we have to play Blackburn twice in the four remaining games.
“This makes this weekend’s game all the more important.”
