Striker hoping to rediscover November form after receiving fans' award
SHANE Long says he feels privileged to be leading the Albion attack – and is determined to turn things around quickly for the 16th-placed Baggies.
The Ireland international was speaking after picking up the Zoopla Player-of-the-Month award for November after finishing top of a fans’ Facebook poll.
Long fired three goals in two draws against Chelsea and Villa last month and is hoping to rediscover that form heading into a Christmas double-header against Tottenham and West Ham.
“It’s amazing to get this award,” said Long.
“Over the last three or four weeks, especially, the fans have been getting right behind me.
“I think the two goals against Villa had something to do with that!
“I enjoyed both goals against Villa but what played on my mind more was when I ran through and had the chance for the hat-trick.
“I was delighted to get the two goals but three points would have been nicer.
“You know when you only play one up front it limits your playing time, so you know when you play you have to perform because there are people mad to get on.
“It’s a bit of a privilege to be playing every week and now we need results.
“We’ve slipped down the table but with all the games coming up it can change very quickly.
“The sooner it changes for us the better because it will take that pressure of ourselves and we can play a bit more freely on the pitch and pick up results more easily.”
