THE Albion Foundation will host and take part in the Premier League’s Down’s Syndrome Football Festival this Sunday.
The event will take place at the club’s indoor training centre on Halfords Lane from 11am and fans are welcome to offer their support.
DSActive teams from across the country will attend the festival, which includes non-competitive fun games and a tournament for players aged 13 and over.
Albion’s DSActive coordinator, Adam Crowle, praised the commitment of the club’s Down’s Syndrome players and their families.
“We began sessions in September and have trained every Thursday since,” said Crowle.
“Working with this group on a regular basis is fantastic and there is never a dull moment.
“Every member of the group brings something different to the sessions.
“Being able to give them and their families the chance to be a part of such a huge day and competing against other clubs is something that they thought would never happen.
“I’d also like to thank the families for their constant support of the session“.
Scott Pollington Woods, DSActive football development officer at the Down’s Syndrome Association, added: “We are ecstatic to have The Albion Foundation join us at the festival this year.
“The Festival allows us to bring our players from across the country together to put into practice the skills and techniques that they are learning weekly in a fun, comfortable, yet competitive environment.
“I am excited to see the developments that The Albion Foundation have made over the past year.
“The Premier League’s Down’s Syndrome Football Festival is made possible through a generous donation by Football Aid and the donation of the facilities from The Albion Foundation.”
DSActive is administrated in partnership between the Down’s Syndrome Association and professional and amateur football clubs with the aim to get as many children and young people with Down’s syndrome playing football.
