Head coach pleased with youngsters
PEPE Mel has called on Saido Berahino to lead Albion’s group of promising youngsters to a bright future.
The Baggies striker could start against Cardiff tomorrow (ko 3pm) should Victor Anichebe lose his race against time to be fit for the Hawthorns encounter.
And Mel, who handed a late debut to Liam O’Neil at Swansea a fortnight ago, hopes Berahino will inspire the up and coming generation of Albion Academy products.
“He is a young player and a player that needs to learn a lot,” said the Albion chief.
“He’s a player that needs to retain his enthusiasm.
“We believe Saido Berahino can go onto to become a very good player in the future.
“When I arrived here he wasn’t playing frequently.
“I’ve started him in a few games and I want him to gain this experience that’s necessary for him.
“The future of West Bromwich Albion really is the young players – the likes of Liam O’Neil, Donervorn Daniels, Kemar Roofe and Saido.
“I really hope Saido Berahino acts as the leader of this young group of players.”
