Albion striker makes history for national side
SALOMON Rondon created a slice of history last night as he fired Venezuela into the quarter-finals of the Copa America. The Albion striker scored the only goal of the game to help la Vinotinto see off Luis Suarez's Uruguay 1-0 and seal their place in the last eight of the competition, at the expense of the 15-time champions.
Rondon bagged his 17th international goal in the first half of their encounter in Philadelphia, tapping home from close range after Alejandro Guerra's audacious shot from near the halfway line had been tipped on to the crossbar.
In the process, he became the first player in history from Venezuela to score in three Copa America tournaments.
After a 1-0 win over Jamaica in their first game, the victory makes it two wins from two in the 100th edition of the Copa America for Venezuela, who now face Mexico for top spot in Group C.
Good luck Salomon!
