Albion were beaten 2-0 by last season's Champions Blackburn Rovers Ladies in the FA Women's Premier League Northern Division on Sunday afternoon.
A goal in either half from Alex Taylor and Jess Holbrook was enough to see the visitors take all three points.
Charlotte McElroy was superb in the Albion goal pulling off some fine saves to keep Rovers at bay early on.
But there was nothing the Baggies shot-stopper could do in the seventh minute when Ria Montgomery's right-wing cross was stabbed home at the far-post by Taylor.
Hattie James almost equalised for the Baggies with an ambitious 40-yard lob, but Rovers keeper Danielle Hill was well alert to make a comfortable catch.
Despite Stamps going close again for Albion, it was Rovers who sealed the victory in the 58th minute when Holbrook, who had hit the crossbar moments before, cut inside to place a shot over McElroy into the far corner.
Boss Louis Sowe admitted there were plenty of positives despite the defeat.
"We had a game plan and executed it really well, if we can cut of those silly mistakes then it will hold us in good stead moving forwards," he said.
"There were plenty of pleasing things to take from the game and we have still not been in a position to put out our full squad yet."
Albion take a break from the league on Sunday (September 3) when they visit Long Eaton United Ladies in the determining round of the FA Women's Premier League Cup.
