Baggies beat Coventry on penalties
ALBION were crowned Birmingham FA County Cup champions once again last night after beating Coventry United Ladies 4-3 on penalties to lift the trophy for a second year running.
Abi Cottam put Albion ahead in the 12th minute with a stunning first time strike which looped over keeper Sue Wood.
Coventry almost equalised when a long-range effort from Hughes clipped the top of the bar before Albion's Walker saw a drilled effort turned away by Wood.
The Baggies were minutes away from victory in normal time, but for a late header by Coventry United's Natasha Lynch.
With no Extra-Time to be played, the game went straight to penalties where Cottam, Walker, Darby and Stewart all converted their spot-kicks while at the other end Thomas produced a fine save to keep Albion ahead.
Brook then missed the decisive penalty for Coventry in Sudden-Death meaning the Baggies sealed their third piece of silverware in just over twelve months.
Head Coach Craig Nicholls praised his players.
"I'm very emotional because it was a tough game, but I'm so pleased for the players.
"Great goal from Abi, then we've done brilliantly to scrap and fight Second half.
"To go and lift their heads again and win the shoot-out after that late goal sums up our spirit and commitment."
