Albion v Chelsea match preview

Albion return to Premier League action following the international break as they host Chelsea at The Hawthorns on Saturday.

The opposition

Chelsea come into the game off the back of three straight wins in the league, including a 1-0 victory over Manchester United in their most recent match.

They sit fourth in the Premier League table on 22 points having won seven, drawn one and lost three of their 11 games this season.

Manager Antonio Conte won the league in his first year in charge last campaign, and looked to strengthen his team over the summer by signing the likes of Alvaro Morata, Danny Drinkwater, Tiemoue Bakayoko, Antonio Rudiger and Davide Zappacosta.

Albion celebrate Gareth McAuley's goal in the 1-0 win over Chelsea in 2012

Last time out

The last game between the sides was back in May when The Blues wrapped up the title thanks to a 1-0 win courtesy of Michy Batshuayi’s late goal.

Chelsea won by the same scoreline at Stamford Bridge back in December, this time though Diego Costa’s second half strike.

Team news

Albion will be without James Morrison and Nacer Chadli for the clash with the Blues, but Oliver Burke is expected to be involved.

Tony Pulis confirmed Albion will be without Chadli for the foreseeable future after he picked up a thigh injury on his return from international duty, whilst Morrison continues to recover from an achilles problem.

Stats

Albion

  • Albion have won three and drawn one of the last six games between the two sides at The Hawthorns.

Pulis expecting tough test

"They're a good team and played very well against Manchester United.

'I've got great respect for Antonio Conte. I think he's a smashing manager and winning the title last year was fabulous.

"We know it'll be a tough game but it'll be a good game. Fingers crossed we get the breaks."

Conte on Albion memories

"Last season's game was a fantastic moment and one that I am proud of.

"But I am now looking at the present.

"It will be a tough game."

Head to head
