ALBION returned to winning ways with a hard-fought 3-1 win at home to Guiseley Vixens in the FA Women’s Premier League Northern Division.
A double from Leanne Mitchell along with a goal from substitute Hattie James was enough to give the Baggies a third league victory of the campaign.
New signing Vanessa Kinnerley had an impressive debut producing some fine saves to keep Guiseley at bay, but couldn’t prevent Nikki Berko’s second-half equaliser from the spot.
The visitors began the brightest when Da Costa planted a header wide before another close-range effort was cleared off the line.
Yet it was Albion who broke the deadlock in the 44th minute when Mitchell created an angle to fire past goalkeeper Beth Seasman.
But the Baggies lead lasted just 13 minutes after the interval when Guiseley were awarded a penalty for a handball inside the box. Berko stepped up and made no mistake from the spot.
However Albion produced an immediate response when a curling free-kick was flicked home by James for the striker’s second goal for the club since signing in the summer.
Despite a late onslaught from the visitors, it was Albion that wrapped up the points in injury time when a classic counter attack saw Mitchell latch onto a clever through ball before calmly slotting past Seasman.
