Albion PL2 Southampton PL2 match report

NACER Chadli made a comeback from injury as Albion's PL2 side lost 1-0 to Southampton at Aggborough Stadium.

The Belgian international played 45 minutes in the loss, in which the only goal of the game came through a Sam McQueen penalty after Alex Palmer was sent off for giving the spot kick away.

In a first half of few clear chances for either side it was Callum Morton who went the closest for Albion on 15 minutes when his fantastic run ended with a powerful shot being bravely blocked.

Southampton's Jonathan Afolabi forced Palmer into a good save 10 minutes later with a low effort from close-range, and the goalkeeper then had to be alert to keep out Thomas O'Connor's header before the break.

The Baggies held firm until the 79th minute when Palmer saw red for bringing down Afolabi after misjudging a long ball, and McQueen made no mistake in hammering home from 12 yards past Brad House.

Zak Brown went close to scoring with a header late into the game for Albion, but despite four minutes of added time they couldn't find an equaliser.

ALBION: Palmer, Soleman, Ferguson, Jameson, MelbourneTulloch, Chambers, Brown, McCourt (House 79), Chadli (Azaz 45); Morton (Pierce 67).
