ALBION were beaten 3-2 away to Leicester City Women in the FA Women’s Premier League Northern Division on Wednesday evening.
Vanessa Kinnerley pulled off a fine save to deny Leicester’s Rosie Axten from the penalty spot early on before Leanne Mitchell’s cooly taken finish put Albion ahead ten minutes before the break.
The Baggies should have increased their advantage a minute later, but Mitchell’s close-range effort was cleared off the line.
After half time Natasha Merritt’s powerful header clipped the top of the bar and Hattie James saw another header go wide as the Baggies kept up the pressure.
Yet it was Leicester who found an equaliser in the 70th minute through a wonder strike from Sophie Domingo before Moriah McIntosh put the hosts ahead ten minutes later.
Axten fired past Kinnerley to make it 3-1 in injury time, only for the Baggies to produce an instant response with Laura Davies' header - but it was all in vain as Albion slipped to defeat in the East Midlands.
Albion play their final home game of the season against Derby County Ladies in the FA Women’s Premier League on Sunday, 29th April (ko 2.30pm).
