ALBION’s under-23s drew 2-2 in a Premier League Cup game with Burnley on a bitter night at Keys Park.
First-team players Conor Townsend, Bakary Sako, Tyrone Mears, Sam Field and Oliver Burke joined up with Jamie Smith’s side for the fixture as they looked to get minutes under their belt ahead of a busy December period.
In an end-to-end start, Burnley’s Dan Agyei had a header cleared off the line before Jonathan Leko saw his powerful effort palmed away down the other end.
But just as Albion were starting to gain control of the game it was the Clarets who found an opening goal, Marley Blair hitting a stunning curler into the top corner which Alex Palmer could do nothing about.
It took just five minutes for the Baggies to equalise, though, as Rekeem Harper scrambled the ball home from close-range.
After the break Albion picked up where they left off and, on 65 minutes, took the lead when Dan Meredith finished well following a good run and lay-off from Burke.
However, Agyei’s low strike with 15 minutes left to play ensured that the points were to be shared in the PL Cup Group C clash.
ALBION: Palmer, Mears, Ferguson, Howkins, Townsend (Healy 45); Meredith, Harper (Wilding 82), Field; Sako, Burke, Leko.
