ALBION’s under-23s beat Ipswich Town 2-1 in their Premier League Cup Group E game at St George’s Park.
The Baggies started brightly and went close twice inside the first ten minutes when Ipswich goalkeeper Kleton Perntreou kept out attempts from Jack Fitzwater and Finn Azaz.
On the half hour mark Albion did manage to break the deadlock, though, when Alex Bradley picked up the ball outside the box and curled a fantastic shot into the top right corner.
The home side continued to dominate and managed to double their lead just before the break thanks to Rekeem Harper’s deflected effort.
In the second half Ipswich got themselves back in the match when Shane McLoughlin got on the end of a corner to reduce the deficit on 73 minutes.
However, Albion managed to comfortably see the game out after that and almost scored again when Callum Morton and Nick Clayton-Phillips both saw shots saved in the final couple of minutes.
ALBION: Palmer, Meredith, Howkins, Jameson (Ferguson 56), Fitzwater, Melbourne; Harper, Bradley; Azaz (Brown 83), Morton, Leko (Clayton-Phillips 29).
Substitutes: Ben Pierce, Evan Pierce.
