Albion’s PL2 side played out a stalemate against Aston Villa at The Banks’s Stadium on Monday evening.
Jamie Soule, Rayhaan Tulloch and Kyle Edwards all had chances for the Baggies, but they couldn’t break Villa’s resolve.
The draw brings to a close Albion’s Premier League 2 Division Two campaign, with the Baggies finishing ninth in the table.
Albion’s team included Kyle Edwards and Sam Field, who both played a full game. The Baggies were also bolstered by a return to action after injury for youngsters Jack Chambers and Nick Clayton-Phillips, who both came on as substitutes.
The first chance of the evening fell to the Throstles, as George Harmon lofted a cross into the box from out wide allowing Soule to meet the ball with a powerful header, but he couldn’t direct his effort at goal.
Villa then went close; Cameron Archer fizzed the ball into the area, but Indiana Vassilev fired over from outside the six-yard box.
Tulloch had two chances for the Baggies, but dragged a shot wide from outside the box and then saw his effort deflected wide for a corner moments later.
Lewis Brunt curled a shot over from outside the box and Isaiah Bazeley-Graham rifled a shot straight at Alex Palmer from distance for the Villains, but the best chance of the half would fall Albion’s way.
Attacking at speed, Finn Azaz played in Soule who closed in on the goal, only to drag his left-footed strike across the face of goal and out for a goal-kick.
Edwards nearly put the Baggies in front at the beginning of the second-half as he weaved his way into a shooting position, but his strike from the edge of the box went wide.
Villa had chances too; Brunt exchanged passes with Vassilev but his shot was just wide, whilst Harvey Knibbs was denied from close range by Palmer before Vassilev hit the post.
Aksum White had a late chance for the Baggies, but he couldn’t muster up enough power in his effort to trouble Matija Sarkic in the Villa net.
