Goals from Hattie James and Keeley Davies helped Albion Women progress to the third round of the Women’s FA Cup with a 2-0 victory over Lincoln City Women at Walsall Wood.
Louis Sowe’s side came out quickly and created early chances, with Davies forcing City ‘keeper Chloe Gray into a smart save.
The opponents then came close in the 22nd minute as forward Abbie Murrell was put through on goal but she couldn’t find the target.
Albion then took the lead as a flowing move saw a Natalie Murray cross converted at the back post by James, who scored her second in as many games.
The second half started slowly until it burst into life in the 63rd minute when Murray crossed from the right again for James, but her header crashed against the crossbar.
Albion came close to extending their lead again in the 78th minute when Keeley Davies fired wide when through on goal.
The game had been fading out until the closing stages when the Baggies sealed the tie, Davies slotting the ball past Gray in the Lincoln goal to send Albion through to the next round.
Sowe’s side will now face a trip to Southampton Women in the third round on Sunday, January 5.
