Keeley Davies fired a late winner to earn Albion a 1-0 victory away at Birmingham & West Midlands Ladies in the FA Women’s National League Division One Midlands.
With Wolves Women not in action - victory meant the Baggies extended their lead at the top of the table to six points before the two rivals go head-to-head in a mouthwatering clash at the end of this month.
Yet it was the hosts who created the best opportunity in a pulsating first-half, Scarlett Field in the Albion goal pulling off a wonderful save to deny Evangeline Gallop.
After the break, Reia Henry saw a driven effort well saved before Harriet James fired into the net from a Laura Davies knock-down only for the goal to be ruled out for offside as Louis Sowe’s side began to take control.
And despite a few scares at the other end, it was the Baggies who made the breakthrough with just five minutes remaining when a Hannah George corner eventually found Davies who neatly slotted home to give Albion another huge three points in their quest for promotion.
Next up for the Baggies is a Black Country derby at home to Wolves Women in the FA Women’s National League Division One Midlands on Sunday, 27th January (ko 2.30pm).
