Albion Under-23s were unfortunate not to beat Liverpool in an exciting Premier League Cup Group C encounter.
The first chance of the game came Liverpool’s way as the Reds probed for a way through Albion’s stubborn defence, but a curled shot well wide of the target from Pedro Chirivella was the best that they could muster up.
Moments later Albion took the lead. Kyle Edwards picked up the ball and ran at the heart of the Liverpool defence before striking a right-footed effort into the bottom corner.
The hosts searched for a way back into the game, testing the resilience of the Baggies' back line, though Albion came close to doubling their lead as Rayhaan Tulloch fired a strike just wide of the target.
After the break the Reds pushed for an equaliser, but it was Jamie Smith's side that were unlucky not to score next as a curling Edwards shot was blocked by a Liverpool arm and Albion's protests were waved away.
Just minutes later Liverpool capitalised on their dominance as Brad House's kick fell to Matthew Virtue, who lobbed into the Albion net from range to level the scores.
It was Liverpool who had the run of the play, however Albion looked dangerous on the break. Tulloch went close with 20 minutes to go, and it was his replacement that should have put the Baggies in front late on.
Played through one-on-one, substitute Jamie Soule just had the keeper to beat but his shot was pounced on by Shamal George in the Liverpool goal.
The Baggies were in the ascendency and created another golden opportunity when Dan Meredith went through on goal, only for George to make a diving save to his right to deny Albion.
Adam Lewis and Lazar Markovic had chances for Liverpool late on, but two good saves from House kept out the hosts to earn the Baggies a valuable point.
ALBION: House, Ferguson, Howkins, Healy, Meredith, Wilding, Azaz (Bradley 45), Melbourne (Harmon 45), Rogers, Tulloch (Soule 70), Edwards.
