Jamie Smith has admitted that Premier League Cup progress is on his mind ahead of a tough game for his Under-23 side at Liverpool this Sunday (ko 1pm).
Albion’s youngsters are in with a realistic chance of qualifying for the knockout rounds after picking up four points from their opening three Group C matches, even beating the Reds in the reverse fixture at The Hawthorns back in early October.
But Smith is wary of a Liverpool side unbeaten from their last seven, and knows his team will need to be at their best in order to pick up a result.
“They’re a very good team with lots of good players who can hurt you with the quality they have,” he said.
“We’ll have to be right at it to get anything from the game.
“We go into every match we play looking to be positive and trying to win it.
“This game is no different. It would be good to progress in the competition.
“We’re not sure exactly what team we’ll put out, but obviously with the first-team playing on Monday night it might affect who we have available.”
