Despite a defiant performance, Albion Women suffered a 3-0 defeat to Coventry United in the Birmingham FA County Cup Final at The Lambs Ground on Tuesday night.
Albion were looking to secure a treble, having already won the FA Women’s National League Plate and the FA Women’s National League Northern Division, but were beaten at the final hurdle.
The Baggies found themselves a goal down after just four minutes - Amy Watham planting a header into the bottom corner for Coventry.
Albion's best chance arrived in the 39th minute when Laura Davies was found inside the six-yard area, forcing Sue Wood into an excellent save.
The Baggies continued to push forward in the second-half, but their efforts were thwarted by another setback, as Beth Merrick doubled United's lead with her effort fizzing high into the back of the net, beyond Vannesa Kinnerley's reach.
Louis Sowe's side pressed for a way back into the game and almost pulled a goal back on with just under ten minutes to play when Bethan Jewitt's cross found the brave Natalie Murray on the six-yard area. Murray put her whole body on the line but couldn't quite get that vital touch.
Minutes later any hopes of an Albion comeback were extinguished, as Amber Hughes made it three for Coventry to secure that they would be the side to lift the Birmingham FA County Cup.
