There are six matches against Midlands rivals to look forward to this season.

Derby County are back in the second tier of English football having spent the last two years in Sky Bet League One. The Baggies will travel to Pride Park on Boxing Day before welcoming the Rams to The Hawthorns for the penultimate home match of the term on Monday, April 21.

The first local clash arrives as early as matchday three, with Carlos Corberán’s men making the short journey up the M6 to the bet365 Stadium for a showdown against Stoke City on Saturday, August 24. The return fixture at The Hawthorns is scheduled to take place on Saturday, January 18.

Coventry City, who narrowly missed out on a Play-Off spot in 2023/24, are the visitors to the Shrine on Wednesday, December 11. Albion head to the CBS Arena on Friday, April 18.

Along with Derby, five more newcomers have joined the Baggies in the Sky Bet Championship.

The Rams were one of three teams earning promotion to this level. Portsmouth were crowned League One winners and are back in the second tier for the first time in 12 years.

The last league meeting between Albion and Pompey was a Premier League encounter in April 2009. Corberán’s side visit Fratton Park on Saturday, September 14 and host the newcomers on Saturday, January 25.

Oxford United were victorious in the Play-Offs, beating Bolton Wanderers at Wembley in the final.

It’s been 25 years since the U’s played second-tier football and were in the same division as the Baggies. Saturday, October 19 is the date for the first match at Oxford’s Kassam Stadium. The return encounter is scheduled to place in the West Midlands on Saturday, February 22.

Burnley, Sheffield United and Luton Town were all relegated from the top flight last season having all won promotion to the Premier League in 2022/23.

Albion’s first encounter against one of those sides is on Saturday, November 2 at Luton Town. The Hatters visit The Hawthorns on the final day of the campaign, Saturday, May 3.

Three days after travelling to Kenilworth Road, the Baggies return home to play Burnley on Tuesday, November 5. The second match against the Clarets also takes place on a Tuesday on March 11 at Turf Moor.

Sheffield United show up at the Shrine on Saturday, December 7 before Corberán’s team make the journey up to South Yorkshire just 22 days later for an encounter at Brammall Lane on Sunday, December 29.

Another packed festive period awaits Albion, which will see them face four fixtures in the space of 12 days over Christmas.

The Baggies host Bristol City on Saturday December 21 before back-to-back away games at Derby County on Boxing Day and Sheffield United on Sunday, December 29. Preston North End are the first opponents of 2025, with the Lilywhites heading to The Hawthorns on New Year’s Day.

Corberán’s team take on Coventry City at the CBS Arena on Good Friday (April 18) and Derby County at home on Easter Monday (April 21).

The final away game of the 2024/25 campaign is at Cardiff City on Saturday, April 26, a week before the last match of the term – a home clash against Luton Town on Saturday, May 3.

Please note, all fixtures are subject to change.

Within seven days of today’s EFL Fixture Release, all matches selected for broadcast for the period to the end of September will be announced, and before a ball is kicked of the 2024/25 season, all TV selections will be confirmed for the period up to the FA Cup third round in early January. This is a landmark commitment, providing fans and clubs up to five months’ notice, an increase from the five weeks' notice given across the majority of the 2023/24 season.
