Adam Armstrong says he was “over the moon” to reunite with Albion Head Coach Tony Mowbray once again.
The prolific striker joined the Baggies on a loan deal until the end of the 2024/25 season on deadline day from Premier League side Southampton.
Mowbray and Armstrong have worked together at Coventry City and more recently Blackburn Rovers, with the forward becoming a regular starter and scorer at Ewood Park under the guidance of the experienced boss.
The 27-year-old, who notched 24 times in the Sky Bet Championship in the previous campaign, insists he’s focused on firing in as many goals as possible during his time at The Hawthorns.
Adam said: “The move to Albion came across pretty late on deadline day. I know the history of West Bromwich Albion and as soon as the interest was there, I was dying to try and make it happen.
“I’m buzzing to be here and I can’t wait to get going.
“I worked with the gaffer on many occasions. Firstly when I was on loan At Coventry City as a young boy, and then he signed me when he was at Blackburn Rovers. I was over the move when he came in and wanted to sign me here. He's a great guy and someone who players love playing for.
“Hopefully we can reconnect on the pitch and I’m hopeful I’ll be able to score a few goals along the way
“I’ve scored a few goals in the Championship. I’d like to start off here by kicking things off with a goal on Saturday, but the most important thing at this stage of the season is getting three points.
“I’ve been in this position before and it’s an important stage of the season.
“Hopefully we can kick on. If my goals can help the club do that, then that’s a positive.
“I knew a few of the boys here before coming up. I’ve played against a lot of them for years.
“I knew Alex Mowatt from my time at Barnsley, Karlan Grant from England as a youngster and Mason Holgate from my time at Southampton. So I knew a few members of the squad and they’ve all made me feel very welcome. I feel like I’ve settled in quite quickly here.
“Every time I’ve come to The Hawthorns to play against West Bromwich Albion it’s always been a really tough game.
“The supporters make it so hard for any away team. You saw what the atmosphere was like in the play-offs last year. It was electric.
“I can’t wait to play in front of the fans here and hopefully score a few goals along the way.”
Armstrong could be handed a debut in the club’s second-tier encounter with Sheffield Wednesday at The Hawthorns on Saturday lunchtime.
The frontman has history of scoring goals on his debut, bagging a brace while at Coventry City, before going on to find the net for both Barnsley and Southampton in maiden appearances for those two teams.
And Adam is eyeing up another memorable moment in front of Baggies fans this weekend.
He added: “I’ve had lot of positive experiences on my debuts. I scored two on my debut as a teenager for Coventry City. I also scored on my Barnsley debut and on my debut for Southampton at Everton which was my first Premier League goal.
“I’ve chipped in with goals on my first start or my first game and I’ll be looking to do that on Saturday against Sheffield Wednesday.
“Like I touched on before though, getting three points at this stage of the season is the most important thing.
“I’d love to get as much game time as possible. The main thing is to try and get promoted. We’re in a great position in the league and we need to take each game as it comes.
“This time of the year is tough in the Championship, but hopefully my experience can help.”
