Semi Ajayi says scoring Saturday night’s last-gasp winner at Peterborough perfectly epitomises why he loves playing football so much.
The towering centre-back popped up in the final minute of added time to send Albion home with all three points from the Weston Homes Stadium – Valérien Ismaël’s side fourth consecutive Sky Bet Championship victory.
Semi’s strike sparked incredible scenes of celebration on the pitch and in the away end, and the defender admitted “pure adrenaline” took over.
He said: “I just had a feeling that Matty would beat his man and get a cross in, so I made sure I got myself into a position where I might be able to score and luckily enough the ball came straight to me.
“It was just pure adrenaline when I scored and ran off celebrating.
“It really is the stuff you dream of. It’s why we play football, for moments like that.
“I’m so happy to have scored the winner in the last minute and I’m so happy for the team because we’ve managed to secure another victory.
“It was a well-earned three points.
“We weren’t at our best at Peterborough but I’m so proud of the boys for the way they dug in and got the win.
“We fought right until the end and our hard work paid off.
“We’ve got to keep this going now when we come back from the break.”
