Albion Blind polish off Premiership season with two victories

Eesa against RNC.

Albion Blind completed their Premiership season with two victories over league rivals Royal National College for the Blind and Merseyside last weekend.

The Baggies came into the final matchday having already reclaimed their league title in March, but were in no mood to let their standards slip.

Strikes from Efe Shimwell and Eesa Amjid helped Albion to victory in their first outing of the day before the duo repeated the feat against RNC to polish off a successful day.

Albion Blind are next in action when they head to the Brian Aarons Cup on May 10, which will determine their FA Disability Cup final opponents in June.

The Baggies began the day with early dominance against RNC, forward Amjid forced a save before Shimwell struck into the bottom-left corner to give the visitors a lead.

They had to ride out a flurry of RNC pressure, as the ever-organised Albion defensive unit charged down a free-kick in a promising position. Anna Draper tipped one around the post shortly after, ensuring that an effort from the hosts didn’t result in an equaliser.

Amjid soon went on several of his inspired runs through the opposition defence, the first forced a save from the RNC goalkeeper, before he dribbled through several challenges to cut back across goal for a Baggies second.

Their clash against Merseyside began much the same as the last match finished, Amjid not receiving the same fortune, though, as his powerful shot forced a near post save from the ‘keeper within a minute.

The forward’s persistence paid off, switching the ball along the surface to Shimwell, who turned to net his second of the day. He almost managed another moments later, speculatively trying his luck from range only to be denied by the opposition goalkeeper’s foot.

Amjid secured his second of the afternoon with just seconds remaining on the clock, dribbling through the field before slicing into the bottom-left corner – a strike fitting of the final goal of the campaign.

Meanwhile, Albion’s Championship outfit won the Championship Cup with two consecutive victories over RNC, Andy Turner scored twice in back-to-back 1-0 wins.
