Albion Powerchair remain unbeaten in the WFA Optegra Premiership after back-to-back fixture weekends at the Lee Westwood Sports Centre in Nottingham.

The Baggies clinched important victories over title rivals Leeds, while keeping other chasers Newcastle United and Aspire PFC at bay in their fight for a sixth league trophy.

Albion are next in action when they head into the 2025 WFA Cup quarter-finals on Sunday, May 11.

The Baggies began the day with a top of the table clash against Leeds, who were perched at the top of the Premiership after a blistering start to the campaign.

It proved to be a game that was as finely poised as the league table is, as a well-worked set-piece found Brad Bates free on the edge of the area, finishing powerfully into the far corner to give Albion the lead.

Bates turned provider moments later, sliding Dylan Kelsall into space who slotted home to put the Baggies into a commanding position.

Results went Albion’s way, leaving the pressure on rivals Aspire PFC as the two met later that day.

The repeat of last year’s FA Disability Cup final brought a tight affair with few chances for either side, leading to a goalless draw and Albion to cement a healthy lead over their fierce rivals.

Two Albion sides faced off shortly after, with Albion getting back to winning ways with an impressive 6-0 win over Throstles, an encounter in which player/coach Chris Gordon notched his 200th Premiership strike.

Ther team backed up a solid performance with a 1-0 win over Middlesbrough, as substitute Lucas Christer came off the bench to smash a reverse spin just inside the post.

Albion finished off the weekend with a tie against Newcastle United, who required a victory to stand any chance of lifting the Premiership this season.

Gordon intuitively spotted a gap in the Toon defence to grab the opener from a kick-in, it was sort-lived, the opposition bounced back moments later to tie the game before half-time.

Albion pushed hard to reinstate their advantage, with Kelsall on the hunt for another strike for the weekend but were hit by a defensive mishap which allowed Newcastle to take the lead.

The defending champions were behind for just the second time this season, but flew back to level terms thanks to a late goal.

A busy weekend left Albion as the only unbeaten side, two points clear at the top of the division and set for an exciting finish to the league season on May 31/June 1.
