Albion start 2025 with a Sky Bet Championship clash against Preston North End at The Hawthorns on New Year's Day (ko 3pm).

The Baggies put in a spirited display at Bramall Lane to earn a point against the high-flying Blades from their final fixture of 2024, and will be hoping to build on that to start the calendar year.

Visitors Preston are coming off a strong home showing against Sheffield Wednesday, in which they netted three times to secure the spoils.

The two teams last met just over a month ago at Deepdale, with that particular encounter ending 1-1. Karlan Grant and Emil Riis were both on the scoresheet.

The visitors

Preston will be keen to build on their recent post-Christmas run of two straight league victories heading into their trip to the Black Country.

Paul Heckingbottom's side are locked in a mid-table battle at this point in time, and may be hoping to try and close the gap to the sides challenging for the top six following their recent upturn in form.

They've lost just one of their last ten league fixtures, having been reduced to ten men in that one defeat against QPR in mid-December, lifting them away from any relegation worries for now.

Their last two results have offered promise, albeit being clinical showings in which they claimed victory despite having less possession than their opponents and fewer shots on goal.

Albion will need to be wary of spurning chances and allowing their visitors to strike on the counter attack when the Lilywhites arrive in B71.

One from the history books

Albion beat Wednesday's guests 2-0 at The Hawthorns in February 2020.

First-half goals from Hal Robson-Kanu and Jake Livermore did the damage.

Preston's Darnell Fisher was shown a red card in the second 45.
