West Bromwich Albion take on Sheffield Wednesday at The Hawthorns in the Sky Bet Championship on Saturday lunchtime (ko 12.30pm).

The Baggies will be determined to bounce back in positive fashion having lost 2-1 down at Plymouth Argyle last weekend.

Visitors Wednesday are within touching distance of the play-off positions in the second tier table and are unbeaten in three league fixtures. The Owls drew their most recent encounter 1-1 at home to Luton Town.

Albion suffered a 3-2 defeat up at Hillsborough in the reverse fixture back in September, with Wednesday's Anthony Musaba scoring an 86th-minute winner.

The visitors

Sheffield Wednesday are enjoying an eye-catching campaign and head to The Hawthorns only a few points adrift of the top six.

The Owls miraculously avoided dropping into the third tier of English football last season, winning their final three to drag themselves away from danger. However, this time around, it's a very different story for Wednesday. They're inside the top half and have their sights set on the top six with 16 fixtures left to play.

Saturday's visitors are unbeaten in three and have the fifth-best away record in the Sky Bet Championship, winning six and drawing two of the 14 encounters contested on their travels. One of their six away triumphs came in their last clash on the road, with Michael Smith and Callum Paterson scoring in the second period to secure a 2-0 success at QPR at the end of January.

German Danny Rohl (35) is their boss. He arrived in October 2023 and did a terrific job to retain Sheffield Wednesday's Championship status having taken over at a time when the club was seven points adrift of safety after enduring their worst ever start to a season.

Rohl played as a defender in the German lower leagues and began his coaching career at RB Leipzig. He's also worked at Southampton, Bayern Munich and as an assistant manager of the German national team. His record as Wednesday's gaffer reads played 73, won 30, drawn 17 and lost 26.

The stats

Tony Mowbray has 699 Sky Bet Championship points to his name, meaning he has the opportunity to hit the 700-mark this weekend.

Albion have the opportunity to extend their unbeaten run at home to 11 games on Saturday afternoon. The Baggies have won four and drawn six of their last ten fixtures in front of their own supporters.

The Baggies are unbeaten in their last five home games against Sheffield Wednesday, scoring exactly one goal in four of those five matches. The last time the Owls won at The Hawthorns was when they secured a 1-0 triumph in a second-tier fixture in April 2007. Deon Burton, a man who now works in Albion's academy, bagged the winner just before the hour.

The Owls have lost only one of their last seven games and arrive at The Hawthorns unbeaten in three matches. The last two times they went three fixtures without defeat in 90 minutes, they went on to lose the next encounter. The last time Wednesday went four without defeat was a run of four between late November and early December in 2024 (D2, W2).

Sheffield Wednesday have the fifth-best away record in the division, collecting 20 points from their 14 fixtures on their travels. They've won six, drawn two and lost six, scoring 18 and conceding 23 away from Hillsborough.
