West Bromwich Albion return to Sky Bet Championship action this weekend, hosting Stoke City at The Hawthorns on Saturday afternoon (ko 3pm).

The Baggies suffered a disappointing 5-1 Emirates FA Cup defeat at Premier League AFC Bournemouth in their most recent match, but have won the last three in the second tier in front of their own supporters.

Stoke City, now managed by former Coventry City boss Mark Robins, made it through to round four of the cup last Saturday, defeating Sunderland 2-1 after extra-time.

Albion were victorious in the reverse fixture back in August, claiming a 2-1 triumph at the bet365 Stadium thanks to goals from Karlan Grant and Josh Maja.

The visitors

Stoke City arrive at The Hawthorns on the back of a four-game unbeaten run.

The Potters secured safe passage to round four of the Emirates FA Cup by beating fellow Sky Bet Championship side Sunderland 2-1 AET last weekend, with forward Niall Ennis bagging the winner in the 112th minute.

It was Mark Robins' first triumph as Stoke boss following his appointment on New Year's Day, having drawn his opening encounter 0-0 at home to Plymouth Argyle.

Saturday's guests recorded a 1-0 win over Sunderland in front of their own supporters and a goalless draw at Burnley prior to the clashes with Plymouth in the Sky Bet Championship and the Black Cats in the cup.

The five points the Potters have picked up in the last three matches have helped move them away from the bottom three, and the target between now and May will be to climb as high as possible in the second-tier table.

Stoke suffered a blow earlier this week though, losing top goalscorer Tom Cannon. The Republic of Ireland international, who had nine goals and one assist to his name in the league, was recalled by parent club Leicester City.

One from the history books

Albion scored an injury-time winner against the Potters in a Premier League fixture at The Hawthorns in January 2016.

Jonny Evans popped up in the perfect position to prod home in front of the Smethwick End to secure three points in the top flight.

Stephane Sessegnon and Jon Walters had both found the net earlier on in the encounter.

The stats

Albion will be hoping to extend their unbeaten league run against Stoke City to six matches on Saturday. The Baggies have won three and drawn two of the last five head-to-heads. The Potters' last league triumph over Albion was a 3-1 success at The Hawthorns in April 2022.

The Baggies have only lost two of their last nine home league games against Stoke City (W5, D2).

Albion have the opportunity to win a fourth straight home game on Saturday. The last time they did that was between December 2023 and January 2024, defeating Norwich City, Leeds United, Blackburn Rovers and Aldershot Town.

Stoke City are four unbeaten in league and cup. They've already had a run of five without defeat this season, winning two and drawing three in November.

The Potters have kept three consecutive league clean sheets, preventing Sunderland, Burnley and Plymouth from scoring against them.

Saturday's clash will be the tenth time Mark Robins has come up against West Bromwich Albion as a manager. His record reads played nine, won two, drawn two and lost five.
