Albion Women finished a busy week unbeaten by drawing 0-0 at home to AFC Fylde on Sunday.
Playing at Hednesford’s Keys Park for the first time, the Baggies went into the game full of confidence following wins against Loughborough Lightning and Boldmere.
Jenny Sugarman made one change to her starting XI, handing a debut to Regional Talent Club graduate Abbie Bourton. Nat Murray also made her return to the squad following a year out.
Fylde started well and tested Albion No.1 Charlotte Clarke early on through Laura Merrin’s curling free-kick.
But the Baggies soon created chances of their own, Sophie Tudor and Kerry Walklett spurning good opportunities to break the deadlock.
Janelle Straker then went close to giving the hosts a deserved lead shortly before the break, however Fylde’s goalkeeper denied the striker from grabbing her third goal in as many matches.
Albion continued to put pressure on their opponents into the second period – yet found a resolute Ellie Etheridge in their way.
Fylde’s shot-stopper thwarted Shannon Stamps’ header before controversially saving a Hannah George penalty - the Baggies captain initially netting from the spot at the first attempt but, after being requested to re-take, saw her second effort pushed away.
Down the other end Clarke had to be at her best to ensure Albion preserved their clean sheet and finished the fixture with a point, producing two fantastic bits of goalkeeping during the final 15 minutes.
Stamps very nearly stole the victory late on, nodding just over from a corner, and the sides were forced to settle for a stalemate.
Albion sit fifth in the FAWNL Northern Premier Division on seven points and face Huddersfield Town next.
