Albion Women were defeated 4-0 in their final FAWNL Northern Premier Division game of the season against champions Newcastle United at the Valley Stadium on Sunday.
The Baggies worked hard to keep the scores level at the halfway stage but were eventually undone by strikes from Tyler Dodds, Kacie Elson, Sharna Wilkinson and Anna Soulsby.
The result meant Albion ended the 2023/24 campaign in ninth position in the standings.
Head coach Siobhan Hodgetts-Still made three changes from the side that faced Stoke City a fortnight ago at bet365 Stadium.
Lucy Newell returned to the starting line-up in place of the injured Jess Reavill, Taylor Reynolds replaced Hannah George at left-back and Kate Evans came in for Fran Orthodoxou.
The visitors commanded the early stages of proceedings and Katie Barker had the first chance as she was played through but couldn’t keep her shot down.
Substitute Steph Weston came on and nearly called visiting goalkeeper Hannah Reid into action, however, her long-range effort whistled just over the bar though.
Kate Evans then won the ball high, leaving Weston to shoot with only the goalkeeper to beat but Hannah Greenwood came in with a recovery challenge to deny the Baggies an opener.
Newcastle snatched the lead just after half-time. Dodds struck a curling effort from range which found the top corner.
A second and third came in quick succession for the visitors as Elson and Wilkinson found the net.
A spot-kick from Soulsby made it four for Newcastle, but the Albion did hit the post late on through a Simran Jhamat header.
