Albion Women 5-0 Stourbridge

An Albion Women team celebration after a goal against Stourbridge

Albion Women ran out worthy 5-0 winners in their FA WNL Northern Premier Division match against Stourbridge on Wednesday evening.

Ellie May scored her first two Albion goals at The Valley Stadium - adding to earlier finishes by Simran Jhamat and Hannah George - as the Baggies held a commanding 4-0 half-time lead.

Late on, Academy Graduate Lucy Davies netted her first ever senior effort for the club, heading in Seren Watkins’ well-placed corner to put the icing on the cake.

Albion are next in action when they host Northampton Town at Ray Hall Lane (Birmingham County FA) in the FA WNL League Cup this Sunday, September 29.

Siobhan Hodgetts-Still made two changes to the side that narrowly lost away at Burnley last Sunday, with Jhamat and Ali Miller coming in for Marli Rhodes-Andrews and Watkins.

The hosts started the strongly and their early pressure paid off in the 10th minute, Jhamat finding space on the edge of the box and firing home the opener.

Only moments later, Miller burst through the Stourbridge midfield and unleashed a strike towards goal - which was palmed behind by goalkeeper Harriet Grimshaw.

They were not denied a second for much longer, though, and the resulting corner from Liv Rabjohn saw her whipped cross brilliantly converted via captain George's header.

Albion continued to dominate and, after a competitive 20-minute spell, May bagged her maiden goal in blue and white. Miller sent her away nicely, and she slid the ball calmly in for their third of the evening.

Before long it was four with May latching onto another sumptuous Miller pass, blasting it past Grimshaw to add an emphatic touch to an already excellent showing.

Miller had a chance to extend the lead just after half-time when the ball broke to her on the edge of the area, but her thunderous attempt rattled the crossbar and bounced away to safety.

Instead, it was one of Albion's own who capped off the scoreline towards the end of the second period.

Youngster Davies, who joined the Baggies as an under-9 and was promoted to the senior squad earlier this summer, nodded Watkins’ perfectly placed corner in, grabbing her first goal and completing a near-perfect night's work.
